I am the client of Christie’s and I have a 14K gold Gubelin Minute Repeater pocket watch, circa 1890. Can you help to find out the original manufacturer of this pocket watch?

Thank you very much!

Just like beautiful ladies. The presumption is also that women have little if any idea of how (say) a car engine works. But most if not all car engines are smelly, dirty and noisy. Contrast that with a mechanical watch and not only does it look good it also sounds good. So a fine watch ladies or a car engine?
For once I think I know what a lady thinks !

Re: Patek Philippe 1518 Perpetual Calendar Chronograph: A Game Changer

I'm planning to buy patek philippe watches as a gift for my husband for his birthday. On a recent DAY TOUR in the Vallee de Joux I took a French gentleman ( an analytical aeronautical engineer) and his wife to see two small ateliers and it was after we finished the day and were chatting that the gentleman said that what he saw and heard was passion for watches and what they make by their own hands. That's so good nowadays when so much in life and business is done to a formula.

Re: Secret Time

Thank you for exposing secrets of horology not mentioned on the array of watch forums. These jewelry/timepieces are exquisite and functional at the same time.

Best,
Jack Freedman

Re: An Inside Look at Christie’s Watch Department with Aurel Bacs and Sam Hines

Watched this entire video start to finish, never once let anything else distract my full attention from it.

Sure: Obviously "Christie's Perspective" on the subject and itself. Still, I found it both unique and compelling. Aurel Bacs, and one presumes by his position, the broad culture of Christie's here, is deeply passionate about watches. Every aspect of 'em, nothing unworthy of fascinated attention.

Because of what I do, I see a lot of what's written on this subject through Internet chats. I interact with people directly at conferences and stores. Too often, if not surprisingly, it's a cold experience. Stakeholders for whom this is clearly nothing more than "business." Forums replete with angry watch guys. Insecurities evidenced by, I guess, fear that one's own watch preference must be vigorously defended in the face of the slightest praise, even that uttered in a vacuum, for alternative choices.

Yeah, the whole "product placement" debate, too. I don't get it. Interest in watches should be nothin' but unbridled fun.

So, kudos again, Meehna, for another great presentation of the bright side of wristwatches and all the joys surrounding them! As usual: Without sacrifice to the journalistic integrity that hallmarks your own name (brand).

Re: Watch Brands Celebrate the Year of the Snake

Not a fan of illustrated dials, but wow the Piaget with Boa Constrictor is really well done.

Re: Tornek-Rayville: The Military Dive Watch Bulova was Supposed to Make

@George W.
